Lisa Welikovitch was born in Montreal, Quebec where she completed an undergraduate degree at McGill University. She completed medical school studies at McMaster University and 3 years of postgraduate training in Internal Medicine at the University of Toronto. Core training in cardiology was undertaken at Queen’s University, followed by a 2 year echocardiography fellowship at The Toronto Hospital.

In 1992 Dr. Welikovitch was appointed to the faculty of Queen’s University Department of Medicine as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Cardiology. She quickly became interested in pursuing an academic career in medical education and took the position of Course Director for the undergraduate curriculum in cardiovascular medicine. Her efforts were recognized with several teaching awards, including the PAIRO Trust Fund Travel Award for clinical education.

Dr. Welikovitch was recruited to the Department of Cardiac Sciences at the University of Calgary in 1998 where she is currently an Associate Professor of Medicine. Her responsibilities there have included the directorship of the undergraduate cardio respiratory course, and a 10 year term as Director for Residency Training in Adult Cardiology. She is currently the Chair of the Royal College Examination Board for Adult Cardiology and also a member of the Royal College Specialty Committee for cardiology. Dr. Welikovitch is the recipient of numerous teaching awards, including the Canadian Association of Medical Education Award of Merit.

Dr. Welikovitch has now assumed the position of Educational Director for C-SPIN. In this capacity she will be responsible for a number of programs which target trainees and junior faculty who wish to pursue dedicated careers in clinical research. This will include the creation and implementation of workshop retreats, webinars, and funding opportunities to support the careers of these talented physicians.
